Dr Luiz Avelar

Dr Avelar is a board-certified plastic surgeon who became a Specialist Member of the Brazilian Plastic Surgery Society in 1994 and achieved full membership in 1999. He is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
As a forensic anthropologist with the Police Department of the State of Minas Gerais, Dr Avelar has conducted groundbreaking research on the pathophysiology of facial aging and its aesthetic implications. His work includes analysing bone remodeling in over 700 skulls from his department. In 2014, he authored the “Atlas de Medicina Legal” and has published extensively on this and related topics in respected medical journals.
His dual expertise in plastic surgery and forensic anthropology has given him exceptional knowledge in anatomy, dissection, and aesthetic procedures. Since 2011, Dr Avelar has served as a speaker and consultant for Galderma, developing extensive expertise in non-surgical procedures and presenting at symposiums and congresses worldwide. He has introduced poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) in over 20 countries and participates in numerous studies, consensus panels, and advisory boards focused on PLLA-SCA.
His landmark publication, “Facial Assessment for Poly-L-Lactic Acid Application—One Product, Different Outcomes,” became the foundation for Galderma’s creation of the AART of Sculptra methodology. Dr Avelar also founded his own institute (IAH), which offers cadaver dissection courses and maintains a digital platform featuring more than 100 recorded presentations.
